WWAPT Reflection with Mrs Lynn

Migration Reflection

As part of the Where We Are In Place Time unit, grade four completed a range of learning experiences to help us understand more about the the central idea-Human Migration is a response to different factors. At the end of the unit, we reflected together on the different learning experiences and discussed what we learned by doing them. Finally, we thought about how our thinking had changed over the last six weeks and recorded this using the visible thinking routine ‘I used to think….Now I think…’

I used to think that it took one week to two weeks to be granted, denied or granted temporary asylum. Now I know that it take at least three weeks to get the result! I used to think that migration was as simple as punctuation. Now I find migration really complicated because there are many different parts to it. I used to think that the boats refugees use were safe for them but now I know that the boats are only slightly safer if the smuggler is on it. At the beginning of the unit I had no idea what being a refugee was like now after I heard Kumar’s story I knew more a less what it felt like! I used to think that going to a country as a refugee was easy but hearing the Lost Boys of Sudan’s story I know how hard it is. I didn’t know the difference between a refugee and a migrant as well as I know now.
